There is a lot to see in life and most people see birds, but bird watching is more than just seeing birds. Robert didn’t just watch life pass him by – he studied, explored, engaged, stockpiled knowledge, appreciated beauty and discovered connections without seeming to have to strive to do so. He was unassuming but not at all shy. For him, living a full life was a pleasure and he shared that pleasure with others. Whenever we met with him, we always felt welcome in his company. He always had a wonderful smile, never seemed rushed and gave importance to your conversation with him. You always knew more after talking with Robert than you did beforehand. He so enjoyed social occasions and having fun. We are lucky to have had Robert as a stalwart family member and to have many memories of happy times shared with him. He wrote of his cousin Margaret following her passing, that her ‘…good humour, good common sense: a model for us all.’. This is such a sad time at the moment, but we can bear his words in mind on our own onward journeys and let his memory continue to inspire us. This donation to BTO fittingly goes to a charity whose power lies in coordinating skilled people to gather information with integrity and present it in ways which inspire positive change. With love xxx
